Last week, we had a huge down pour of rain. Our river rose so high that it burst its banks and flooded some of our town. The last time our river rose this high was over 13 years ago!
Some people were even evaluated from their homes.
Jeannie wrote a report about the flooding:
Last night Wanganui
flooded very badly. Some of the trees in
Kowhai park fell down. There was a huge queue on Dublin street bridge because the city bridge was flooded and the queue was
at the butchers! (at the end) Lots of
houses got evacuated so people had to sleep at neighbours. Most of the roads
were closed. There was dirty muddy water and the trees fell in the water. I wondered
what happened to the fish and the animals in water.
Great report Jeannie- you spelled 'evacuated' and 'queue' correctly too- that's awesome!

You are right, the water did leave lots and lots of mud behind. Our river is always this muddy brown colour.

Hi Keanu,
DeleteIn Wanganui, we are surrounded by lots of water. We can drive for 10 minutes and be at a beach. We have black sand at our beaches!

ReplyDeleteReally? What part of New Zealand are you from? We are located at the bottom of the North Island (near Wellington).
DeleteAs you can see, my class was very interested in the flooding. Excellent reporting Jeannie! Your pictures added to the interesting commentary.
