As part of our Inquiry into the FIFA World Cup, we roamed the streets of Brazil through Google Maps. Wow, what an experience! It looks like a colourful vibrant place where the streets are painted and full of streamers and confetti. We have tried to create this atmosphere in our own classroom - check it out!

Loving the Library
Using the library for a new learning space. Here's what we thought...
"It was cool being able to find books to help me with my research!"
"I like the coziness of our library. It was fun working in there."
"Getting away from the banging and crashing next door was nice!"

Reusing
This week we have been learning about how to reuse old unwanted things to save our planet. When we chuck household waste away it all goes to the land fill which produces bad gases. These bad gases are not good for our ozone. So, why not reuse some items so they don't end up in the land fill and in return help to save our planet!!
Tomorrow, we will be doing just that. So watch this space to find out what we produce !!

Hockey
This term we were taught some great hockey skills. We learnt how to safely pass the ball to another team player and how to trap the ball. We also learnt some fun games that helped us build and practice these hockey skills. Some of these games were cat and mouse, rob the nest and avoiding the bombs!
A big thank you to Melissa and Liz!

Striving for Accuracy!
On Tuesday, Miss Thiele gave us a little quiz.
1. Who is on the Carlton School striving for accuracy poster?
2. Where is it located in Carlton School?
We knew exactly where it was! Do you?
Sign Language Week
This week it is sign language week.
In Room 2 we were lucky enough to have Kainoa's mum teach us to sign the alphabet and the numbers 1 - 10.
We were even clever enough to sign our own names to each other!
Collage
During the holidays, Miss Thiele was browsing the web for collage ideas as this is our art focus for term 2. She stumbled across a photo of a collage dog and loved it! Miss Thiele knew that the children in Room 2 loved animals and that they always talked about their pets; so how convenient!
First we discussed what a collage is. We then discussed the concept of contrasting colours and the shapes used for the different parts of the dog before creating our own breeds.
Here are a few of our results:

On Tuesday afternoon all of the Carlton School classrooms spent time with their buddies. Our buddies are from Room 10. We got to spend time in each others classroom playing games and creating figures with the play dough.
There are some photos of us:

ANZAC Learning
Over the last week Room 2 has been learning about Anzac Day. We went on a trip to the Wanganui Museum, War Memorial Hall and Queen's Park to further our knowledge about the Anzac's.
We have also been busy baking our own Anzac biscuits. We have learnt that the Anzac biscuit was one of the food items that woman sent to soldiers during the First World War because they were hard, long-keeping and they could survive the long journey by sea, and still remain edible.

Library Opening
Our library recently re-opened. It has been out of action since the end of 2013 and we have finally been able to step foot inside our 'new' library! It has had a complete make over, from top to toe. It looks great inside - it even has new steps to sit on and a tent to read inside of.
We got to dress up as our favourite book characters to celebrate the opening of our library.
It was a really fun day - some of us in Room 2 wished the day never ended!

Cyber Buster Show
Today we were lucky enough to watch a show all about cyber bullying.
We learnt lots of important messages about cyber bullying:
- block people who cyber bully you.
- never post anything on the internet about someone else without their permission.
- if someone texts you mean things tell an adult and ignore them by not replying.
- if you get a new number only tell your closest friends your new number.
Kittens!
Last week, Skyla-Rose's Mum bought in their little kittens into our class.
They were only 3 weeks old and so tiny!!
Duffy Books 2014
Today we finally got given our Duffy Books. The guest speaker, Vicki Crawford who is a singer-songwriter, was unable to make it to our Duffy assembly but we still got given our Duffy books and sung the Duffy Kids song.
Here is a photo of all of our Duffy Books!
We are very thankful to be given 2 free books to read at home with our family and whanau.

Assembly Item
Our class put together a dancing/acting item to showcase in our school assembly. The main message behind our item was the skill of persisting and working together to achieve a goal.
I think Room 2 did a pretty cool job! Check out the video and see for yourself....

Water fight!
As you probably know, on Friday was the Carlton School water fight. IT WAS EPIC!! I brought a bottle to school because I don't have a water gun like some of the other kids did. It was more fun for me to just take my bottle lid of and pour the whole bottle on kids heads. I really wish the water fight could last forever!!!

Week 4 Reflection
What: On Monday it was our first day of our Literacy Contract. Once we have completed our first task we got to tick it off the record sheet. We like that we get to sit wherever we want. A quiet spot is best to work!
On Tuesday, we put our car colour data onto our computers and we got to choose different graphs. The pie graph was pretty cool! On Wednesday, we were spoilt because Ms O'Connor bought the whole entire school an ice block to eat. We ate it under the trees at the end of the day! Miss Kirkwood was our teacher on Wednesday. On Thursday, we got to create our own fans because we were soooooo hot!
So what: At swimming some of us learnt how to freestyle in the pool. We have also learnt that swimming is just as important as all our other subjects.
Now what: Next week we'd like to get all our literacy contract tasks completed and finished by Friday so we don't have to go to work finishing and so we can have 'flying free' time on our computers! We also want to work hard on Khan Academy by achieving the stars.

Human Bar Graph
This term one of our Math focuses is statistics. We started by creating a human bar graph! Yes, a bar graph made out of humans.
This human graph is displaying which canteen foods we would like to have; if we could!
Corbin was our Y axies, and Kaya was our X axies. The five people holding the food signs are our 'human bars'. It was such a fun way to visualise how bar graphs should look.
Can you tell which lunch was the most popular in our class?

Wheels Day
Our school had a wheels day. We were allowed to bring anything to school that had wheels e.g. scooters, bikes, huffy sliders, go-carts etc. At lunchtime, we rode around having races and doing circuits. This afternoon lots of other wheels arrived at our school, including the police with their flashing red and blue lights and ear piecing siren. Santa was even there!!
We had lots of fun!
